John Parson

“I have spent my life in the pursuit of the human spirit in the hope of giving it some form of visual expression.
To this end I have practised my painting and portraiture in many media and in an wide variety of cultures and settings .
With each piece I have tried come closer to recognising that special spark the resides in each of us
I recently returned to Canada (3 years ago) after a long stretch in New Zealand ,
to be close to my ageing parents in Peterborough, Ontario

John was born in Toronto , Canada, 1947.
He Graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1970, top of his class
with Honours and the Mclean Foundation Travelling Scholarship .
early in his career he worked in co-operation with a number of National and World fairs doing portraits ,
including EXPO '67 Montreal , Canada and Hemisfair 1968, San Antonio , Texas and the Canadian National EX 1968 to 1974.
as a result his portrait work, he is hung internationally .
he has worked and studied in Europe including Paris / Montmartre 1972-75
and studied old-master techniques with a Louvre copyist in Paris ,France
He has travelled widely , including Europe , North Africa , the Middle East , the Far East ,
U.S.A. , Australia , New Zealand , Japan
he moved to New Zealand in 1976 with his wife to be , and became dual Canadian / N.Z. citizen.....
he had a number of shows while living in New Zealand
in Auckland in the 70's and 80's..........the Building Centre Gallery
a one man show at the Barrington Gallery , plus a number of prestigious group shows .
during this same period in Wellington NZ, he had a number of one man shows at the Antipodes Gallery .
Later he moved to Queenstown (NZ) in 1980 where he has shown continually since.
and also locally at the Lakes District Museum, Arrowtown
since May 1998 till the present day he has been represented by Fishers Fine Arts , Christchurch, and Auckland NZ
and The Rosslyn Gallery , Dunedin NZ
he has appeared on numerous television shows in U.S.A. ,Canada and N.Z., as well as in the in-flight magazine of Air N.Z.
he has shown in Australia- (Sydney and Surfers Paradise,- Billich Gallery)
he was a guest artist at the Buckhorn Art Festival , Canada in 1994,
and he returned to the festival in 2007.

he is now back in Canada , and painting and residing in Peterborough , Ontario .
